Southern Cassowary - Casuarius casuarius - Casoar à casque

This bird is about 160-180 cm tall.
The Southern Cassowary is an Australian species. It may be found in New Guinea too.
It frequents the rainforests.
It feeds mainly on fallen fruit, but it also consumes small dead animals and insects.
This large bird is sedentary in its range and often seen alone.
It does not fly, but the powerful legs allow this bird to walk through its territory for feeding.
In this species, the female does not share the nesting duties with her mate.
She breeds with several males and lays eggs in each nest.
Then, the male alone incubates the eggs and rears the chicks.
