Pelicans in St James’ Park – London UK

There are five pelicans in this beautiful park, one American White Pelican, with shield on the bill, and four White Pelicans, with pale pink plumage. These pelicans were introduced in 1664 by the Russian Ambassador, as a present to Charles II. The tradition continues; five pelicans are always living in St James’ Park. They usually feed on fish, and they are fed every day at 3.00 pm. Visitors enjoy this moment. But sometimes, an “accident” occurs, and one of the birds eats some living bird crossing by its beak…They also like all kinds of sandwiches, and they are able to steal them from an inattentive visitor!
