Speckled Wood has brown wings with yellowish and some black eyes spots.
It lives and breeds in shady wooded habitats, but we also see it in parks and gardens, and wet areas with tall grass, and also hedgerows.
It is found in North Africa and Europe where it is widespread.
Adult Speckled Wood feeds on flowers’ nectar, and on aphid honeydew, high in trees.
Male defends its territory against every intruder in the neighbourhood.
Female lays single eggs in sheltered places.
This species may overwinter in two different developments, pupae and larvae.
