Birding in Extremadura and Monfragüe Park - March 2009
I spent some days in this region again, because I love this area, the silence, the birds and the sun!
One more time, several species were present such as the Great Bustards in the steppes, the Vultures (Griffon and Monk) both in the steppes and within the park, all the “common” birds living and nesting in these large plains, and a new species for me, the Great Spotted Cuckoo which is a wonderful bird, never seen before!
It is always a great pleasure to visit this region, and to enjoy the beautiful birds living in these special landscapes named “Dehesa” where cattle is grazing below the Corn Oaks.
In the Park, the two vultures’ species are living quietly and their numbers are stable, even increasing in spite of the numerous visitors every day and all year round.
I hope you will enjoy these pictures again!
