There are two wonderful theories as to where the multicolour doors in Ireland come from:

1. When Queen Victoria passed away, everone was told to paint their doors black in mourning. In revolt, the Irish did the opposite and painted their doors in all the wonderful colours.

2. Drunken Irish men would return from the pubs and would be unable to go to the correct house. The doors were painted differently so that they would know where to go home to!
