The Romans settled here only 10years after the death of Jesus.

Julias Caesar was the leader of the invasion force of five legions
and 2000 cavalry.
The Romans called the settlement they formed and built Londinium.

Ninety seven years after Caesar left in the reign of Claudius a
second Roman invasion took place and consisted of a force of
approximately 40000.

They built a defensive wall which stretched in an arc shape
from blackfriars to Tower Bridge.

The Roman City is still there 2oft (6m) below the now ground level.

Often when the foundations are being built for new high rise blocks
the Roman remains are unearthed and recorded and also built over
and form part of basements in the new buildings where they can
be viewed.
