Imaging trip to the Observatorio del Roque de los Muchachos
Between 8th August and 16th August 2009 I was lucky enough to be able to observe and image the Moon and Jupiter from the Observatorio del Roque de los Muchachos (ORM), La Palma. The ORM is situated on the edge of the Caldera de Taburiente National Park, 2.396 m. above sea level and is home to some of the largest and most famous telescopes in the world.
During my stay, the seeing varied from average to excellent (the first few nights were affected by the remnants of a Saharan sandstorm). I also had the opportunity to view the telescopes of the Isaac Newton Group close-up.
My sincere thanks to Javier Mendez for all his help during my stay, and everyone else at ING and IAC who made my trip possible.
