Picinisco - Updated

The village of Picinisco lies at the top of one of the mountains on the edge of the Abruzzo national park, in the province of Frosinone, Lazio, Italy. It is the administrative centre of the commune of Picinisco and looks out across the beautiful Comino valley. My grandfather and his family came from there, as did so many Italian immigrants to England, and especially Scotland, and many other places.

These photos were taken on a recent visit around the mountain village.

My Wife's was born in London her nee name is Cerveno which was changed from Cervini in the forties - we believe. I had tracked the family back to Picinisco but have lost that info due to PC trouble. Anyways the original Cervinis went to Holborn.

At last I made it to picinisco last week. We took a package tour to sorrento and stayed at the ascot hotel. We left sorrento and took the 9.07am train to Napels. From Napels we took a train to cassino which arrived at 2pm. we had booked bed and breakfast and the b&b owners collected us from the station. they charged us 50euros which was cheap as the taxi drivers wanted 100euros each way. I cannot tell you the feeling going into the village and seeing evidence of so many crolla's. we had a drink in the square and had crolla's on both sides of us. Picinosco is one of the most beutiful places I have ever seen. totalcost from sorrento was �200 including the b&b. it was well worth it!! Only down side my husband had his wallet stolen on the napels-sorrento train.

Dom D'Ambrosio.his wife.son Jimmy and daughters Teresa and Lilly left Picinisco and opened a cafe in Lochwinnoch Renfrewshire.Lilly married a Demarco(Di Marco) and moved to England.

My wifes great grandmother, Adoloratta Pacitti is from Picinisco, she came to North east England in the early 1900s with her children. It looks beautiful, do you know if there are any Pacittis still there?

thank you nick, i want to know how long (time wise)it takes from naples to picinisco. i am a bit worried about the journey as i do not speak italian and as we are 65&70years its a bit daunting. i am determined to get there. could the journey be done in one day or would it be better with b&b? I would like to book everything before we leave. many thanks for your help. julia.

My name is Liliana Di Felice, My father Fiore Di Felice, was born in Picnisco in 1925, he married my Mother Ida Vitti. My fathers mothers name is Angelina Capaldi, who lived in Picinsco, in are called (il Macere). I was also born in Picinsco, we moved to the USA in l957, I am trtrying to buy a place in Picinisco, but much trouble with all of my paper work. Very nice pictures. We maintain a small home there and it is in the Abbruzzi mountains in the Parco Nazionale. Perfect for camping and fishing. I will send along my email if you ever need accomodations we rent it out fairly boun mercato as they say in Italia. mjcapaldi@gmail.com

Great photos.My great grandfather, Antonio Cervini left Picinisco in the 1880s to come to London. I wonder whether there are any Cervinis left in the area? I will visit Picinsico soon.

Great shots. I am desperate to know if anyone in the village is a relative of mine. My great grandmother, Eugenia Mancini, came to the UK with Marco Jafrate (or Jafrato or Giafrate or Iafrate) at the turn of the 20th century.
