Broom Crowberry- Corema conradii habitat

In the background are "pygmy" Pitch Pines (Pinus rigida) that grow only about head high or less. This phenomenon represents a globally-rare plant community. It is thought that soil conditions or frequent fires have stunted the growth of these trees. Normally Pitch Pines grow up to 40-50' tall!
