Below zero weather and thick low lying fog has created a winter wonderland here for the last couple of days.
Makes for fun photo opps but tough to be out in it for any length of time.
The word "pogonip" is an English adaptation of the Shoshone word meaning "cloud".
It's a type of frozen ice fog occuring during cold winter spells,
usually in deep mountain valleys. Pogonip only forms under
the right conditions, the humidity being near 100% as the air
temperature drops to well below freezing, allowing ice crystals
to form in the air, then settling onto surfaces.
Nice gallery, Paula ... makes me cold to look at it. I experienced the ice fog of which you speak years ago in Alaska. It was weird ... it kind of just hung in the air and you could touch and feel it. Voted
