The Jarbidge Wilderness is 113,000 acres of high mountains
and deep glaciated canyons located in northeastern Elko County.
It was the first designated wilderness area in Nevada.
The name Jarbidge translates from the Shoshone
to mean "monster that lurks in the canyon".
It is also said the name "Jarbidge" originates
from the Nez Perce word "Jahabich", which means "devil".
Either way ... it is a must see, quite an enchanting place.
One unique feature is that this wilderness contains a Class 1 Airshed.
Meaning it possesses one of the last few remnants of pristine air in the nation.
