It's that time of year (we get one cutting per year with our growing season)
...clover in the fields, flies buzzing lazily 'round the cattle,
horses lounging under the shade of cottonwoods
and the humming of the hay machinery echoing throughout the valley.
The sweet wonderful smell of cut hay,
the late sun casting thousands of 'bale shadows' along the fields...
ranchers seen and heard cutting, swathing
and baling every day until the stars shine
bright and clear under a cloudless night
Long hard days...the rancher makes the most of each one.
Such a well done gallery depicting one of many different areas shared by ranchers of the western states.. Haying season is such a necessary function of keeping western ranches going with a full head of steam in preparation for the harsh winter to come. Wonderful job Paula showing us this hard chore but so very necessary.
