One of the last doctors in Bannack, Dr. Robert Ryburn practiced medicine here from 1897
to 1915. He traveled by horse and buggy, sleigh and automobile in all kinds of weather to
deliver babies, tend to gunshot wounds, and treat mining and ranching accidents. He was very
progressive and owned the first automobile in town. His patients didn't always have cash so
sometimes the Doctor accepted payment in chickens, vegetables or other commodities for his
services.
Other notable doctors to practice in Bannack were Dr. Leavitt, who treated Henry Plummer for
a gunshot wound, Dr. Glick, and Mary Babcock Moore, one of the first women to practice
medicine in Montana.
