Petey

My daughter grew up on Petey. She was eleven years old when she first started
riding him. He was a tough stubborn one at first...didn't want to listen to a kid.
She gave up on him, quit riding for a whole year, and then one day I saw the fierce
determination in her eyes as she stomped across the yard dragging that saddle and I knew she'd win. She did.
They've been best buds ever since. I always knew when she was out riding Petey...I'd hear
her just a jabbering away and he'd be listening. He knew just what to say when she was
pouring her heart out to him...not one dang thing. Petey, just listening - taking it all in, always seemed to be just what she needed.

Today was Petey's last day with us. The lady that sold us Petey 8 years ago came by in hopes
that we still had him. She has a 7 year old granddaughter just itching to have her own
horse. It was the deciding factor...do we bring Petey to the high mountains of Montana ... or do we leave him in Nevada where was born...
He belongs here with another kid. One that will talk his ears off, I hope. He likes that.
There are many memories attached to that old horse. Boy oh boy, we're gonna miss you Petey.
