Lord Howe Island

These pictures were all taken with the Canon IXUS V1. Lord Howe Island is in the middle of the South Pacific Ocean between Australia and New Zealand. It has World Heritage Listing due to it's immense numbers of native flora and fauna and is the most pristine and unique oceanic nature preserve in the world. The island is the remnant crater of a volcano that has been extinct for millions of years and is only half a kilometer across at the narrowest point and around five kilometers in length. Rena and I took the 2 and a half hour flight by Qantas Dash 8 light aircraft to the island a few weeks after we first met. Unfortunately, we arrived in the midst of a freak storm front and were under torrential downpour for the entire 8 days of our stay. There was a 5 hour break in the weather on the second last day which we used to our best abilities. We took about 300 pictures in those few hours. Got stuck in a downpour on a mountain top but fortunately brought sealable plastic bags with us. This was my 14th trip to the island and Rena's first. We plan to return with a high end digital camera to shoot a documentary of the island.
