I had this lens first and still think it has a little better color than the 24-105 f/4 IS. But I am not sure if I would have bought this one if I had the 24-105 f/4 IS first. If a shallower DOF is needed, this is the lens to use. It also has less distortion at 24mm than the 24-105 at 24mm but it is heavier and bigger than the 24-105.
