Osage Orange Hedge Row

The tree is not an inspiring tree to view. It is hardy and repels disease so it was good for farmers in the past to keep the top soil in place by growing dense bands of them.

I posted one last image on the subject to show them on the tree. Click to view.

Didn't know anything about these until you posted these photos! Kind of sounds like hawthorn trees on steroids. I guess these trees had uses beyond fence post in woodcraft where every kind of wood had a use. Apparently Osage Orange made excellent treenails.

they do look attractive trees, particularly at this time of year...all the diagonals add pizzazz here..

very nice perspective in your composition with that diagonal of trees.V.

These offending trees are really attractive in a line. I could imagine too that they can be a good wind barrier. Just stay clear of those seedballs! I like the last remnants of yellow leaves that hang on til the bitter end of autumn! Nice line across the frame with the opposing line of the fence in the distance intersecting it.
