Cook Bank, Rhyolite

A gold mining town that went bust around 1906. It had 10000 in population, a jail, schools, and a bank. In a very short time it was a ghost town.

And no graffiti either! The stages of decay reveal the materials used in its construction. I hope the townspeople took the prisoners with them when they abandoned the town.

This side view is different and shows very nicely the great variety of different surface textures and tones. Really excellent B&W conversion and perfect framing. ~BV~

The composition is superb.

Interesting remnants. I guess a "one trick" economy like gold mining won't keep a town running when the trick is better elsewhere and there is nothing to replace it with.

Amazing how towns came and went in N.America. That doesn't seem to happen elsewhere. Neat shot depicting this phenomenon V
