The construction of the monumental National Palace of Queluz was started in the year of 1747, by order of prince Pedro.
The palace´s central section was completed by 1758, but the rest of the building and the gardens were only finished when king Pedro III married queen Maria. Thus was born the grand monument, known for its architecture in the Baroque, Rococo and Neo-Classical style, for its formal gardens, vast spaces, elegant façades and the gilded wood-work that decorates the rooms. Inside the palace there are numerous thematic rooms, such as the Throne Room, the Music Room and the Don Quixote Chamber, among others.
The magnificent gardens, , were created by Robillon; visitors can admire countless sculptures and fountains, such as the Fountain of Neptune , created by the Italian architect Berninni.
