Barn Owl DSC_4213-ec.jpg

Eastern Canada

The population of this species dropped dramatically from 1970 - 2000. Currently listed as endangered in in some U.S.states. The nest box programs have helped to slowly bring them back in certain areas of North America.

The Barn Owl is one of the very few bird species where the female is more colourful and is definitely more attractive than the male. The North American species is known as the largest world wide and twice the size of the smallest race fron Galapagos Islands. This image was obtained in captivity.
