Hi Kathleen...Well, it matches the temperament of the bird I photographed. It just sat there on the fence, posing, and didn't seem the least bothered by my presence. But I did take the photo in a pretty popular wildlife refuge so it was probably used to seeing people in the area. (Your e-mail address didn't work for me...Is it correct in your post?)

I just saw one of these and I am camping in a green field with small bodies of water(sloughs) close by. I am just outside Edmonton Alberta. It was not afraid of me at all, more curious. Is it the type of bird you posted?

This morning a bird looking like this Juvenile Night Heron but a bit fatter has been by our pool in Tucson, AZ seeming to watch for fish or food. We have lots of rocks around the pool so it looks very natural. We noticed the bird at about 8:00 am and it is still there at 10:30 am. We thought it had left at one point so went outside and it had just walked closer the water. It did not seemed concerned about our presence. Aqua Caliente Park is about three miles from us and there is water with birds around. We will visit there to see if we can see others of its kind. Interesting since we live in the desert.
