Blind Date

At the edge of sunset
a white dog stands fixated
coat blending with the frothy surf
in entirety, intensely focused

At camera, I move in
just as the sea surges from the other side
We all dash back
All but one

"He's blind."

Ahh. I look closely to see an aged eye of mostly white

"When he was young, we took him to the beach."
"Where do you live?"
"Klamath Falls."
"We thought we would give him one more visit to the beach."

Now I see what he was looking at
And I wonder
how far he could see into his youth
and into his future …
oh, so near.
