At the top pf Le Dinh Duong, on Ong Ich Kiem , there is a pagoda set back from the street. Outside, on the street, sellers make delicious Banh Xeo and sell fruit, and inside, kids climb the sturdy trees and ride their bikes like maniacs in safety from the frantic traffic. The doors to the hall are sturdy carved wood with fantastic figures. Fabulous warriors and gilded dragons guard the doors on either side. Just inside the door is a many-armed figure, each hand holding an eye in the centre of its palm. Aloft by the door is a floating wooden fairy-like figure, holding plastic flowers. The focus of worship is a gigantic gold-painted Buddha at the back of the room. Photos by Alwyne.
