Someone named this old veteran stallion 'the Red Lion'. He is an older male that I have been filming and photographing for eleven years. A rock star in his own time, he has been aptly named; ferocious, fearless and very successful as a stallion in maintaining a large herd of loyal mares and fathering many of the new colts in the desert. But now, his age has begun to show as he is less inclined to defend his ever smaller band of mares. Eventually he will end up a lone stallion, pushed out by the younger males that will have stolen his females.
