I found the wild horses at the top of a long climb this afternoon. They were trying to feed along the top of a high ridge where usually the wind will uncover the meager clumps of dry grass. But the wind has not blown since the storm last night, so the mustangs were pawing the snow away to eat.
It was extremely cold and the snowflakes were dry and powdery over the landscape. It reminds me of the fact that the wild horses are very tough and adaptable. This young little filly now runs in a band with a tough young stallion and will likely remain in his band for a few years.
