This old white stallion has been around. I really don't know for sure, but guess he must be over fifteen years old. Just four years ago he was at the top; taking on all challengers and winning every fight. But, age has removed him to the lowly position of a loner. He hangs around the fringe of the other horses and is chased away by now stronger males he may have sired.
I always try to find him on every visit to the desert and devote much of my time photographing him. He is patient and allows me to get within 50 feet of him, giving me countless portraits of his long flowing mane against blue skies. He will still display strength to the younger males with an arched neck and raised front hoof, something that is fun to watch.
One day in the future, I might find his remains in the sage. But from what I have witnessed over the past several years, he has lived a great life as a wild stallion.
