Filled with the runoff of recent rainstorms, the desert waterhole has gone from dried mud puddle to a brimming pond of life sustaining water for the mustangs and other wildlife. One of only five waterholes in the otherwise barren valley, this shallow pool is miles away from the next nearest other place with water. In the hottest part of the summer, only one waterhole of the five will have water in it, it is fed by a year-round spring. The horses then will have to walk up to 15 miles to drink there.
