A single image showing the determination of wild stallions intent on elimination of an opponent. I feel that one of the combatants would have killed the other, but they were so closely matched in offensive and defensive skills that one would not prevail over the other, so the fight went on. The stallion in this frame bites and locks on to the foreleg and holds on for several seconds, almost bringing the other horse to the ground. As the bitten horse breaks free, he is slashed open and cut to the bone.
These two males fought several times the day I was there. The roan horse that was wounded in this photo finally did win a mare from the opponent.
