A wild stallion lives to fight. His most powerful urge beyond breathing, eating, and drinking is to breed. He has to earn his harem of mares, then he has to defend them. This is only accomplished by successful fighting, and he has to win every encounter.
Inflicting pain on a rival is crucial; horses have good memories, and a defeated stallion may keep away for a while. These survival gladiators learn and employ successful fighting techniques. In the image above, Shaggy is able to whirl around from a face-off with the light colored horse (Pasty) and get in position first to deliver a crushing kick.
