Two roads diverged... - by Bob L

Carmichael (near Sacramento) CA

Just experimenting with a trike I found sitting on my old high school's track; I'm not sure what I think of it myself but I thought I'd submit it and see what others thought of it.

Lots of post processing too; I'm really new to this but am trying to get used to it. Bumped up contrast, saturation, and lightness, resized, and rotated slightly. I tried USM but actually preferred it without.

Minolta DiMAGE Z1
Seems I lost my EXIF with DIVU; I really need to get rid of it..
Anyway this was 6mm (real focal length, around 45-50mm 35mm equivalent)
f/4.5
1/640 second
ISO 50
Aperture priority, -1ev exposure compensation, daylight white balance full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

If you're interested, I started a thread on this image athttp://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1024&message=8558458 .
I tried changing the post processing on this before the contest ended but never arrived at anything I felt was superior. I know a lot of other people don't care for it, but personally I like the heavy contrast/heavy saturation look (aka "Sony Mode" :-) ). You can see the whole set of originals that I took of this subject athttp://www.calpoly.edu/~rclawson/trike/page1.html (notice links at bottom; there's six pages total)

I thank everyone who has commented on this image for both their praise and their insightful criticisms; you are helping me grow in my skill.

Yes, Yes, YES........ I love this shot..........sauturation & contrast are also my 2 best friends. Warm colors, cool colors, both working so well together & I like the tricycle idea...... we may not win many votes with high contrast & saturation, but it is great eye candy for some, thanks - Iam3D

I like this shot, kinda has amerian 50's feel, i dont or cant explain why, i think it maybe the saturation in the sky that does, but it works well.

You sure do enjoy post processing! And I do enjoy the set-up, composition and use of complementary colors. Left this way it would appear to me to be a surrealist photograph. Nicely balanced... the horizon is a bit up-center and the bike is an anchor object. I just can't look at it in it's final stage because of it's brightness & extra heavy saturation.

I like the composition and framing. The PP is "a bit" too extreme for my taste, but still an intersting picture

I renamed it; I'll take another look at pp tomorrow when I'm more awake (I'm really tired right now). Thanks for the comments though.

Bob, could you pls. modify the title of the picture in ..title.. "by Bob L.". Thanks.
I feel this picture has a high potential. I would like to see the bike less red (it's so red that even I can see it) and much more detail in the trees. If you want to, you are allowed to make changes and repost in the same place. Paul.
