Colorado - Castlewood Canyon State Park

On May 23, 2000 (Tom's Birthday), Tom and Norma decided to take a short drive to where we had seen a lot of prairie dogs in the past, to take some pictures. Well, when we got there and went close enough to get some pictures, all the prairie dogs disappeared (duh!). We only managed to get one decent picture. We felt uncomfortable to stay longer because we were parked on someone's property, so we decided to look for another place where we might be able to stay longer. We didn't find any more prairie dogs, but since we were out with our cameras, we decided to extend our trip to Castlewood Canyon State Park, just south of Franktown, CO.  Now we are at Castlewood Canyon State Park. It's just a small canyon by Colorado standards, but has some interesting rock formations.

Now we're at the bottom of those stairs looking up. The path continues to the bottom of the canyon, but it was a hot day and we didn't look forward to coming back up, so we didn't go down further.

 The road back home. We decided to return via the scenic route. It turned out to be a gravel road through the flatlands.
