I took these photos along the Mississippi River except for the real close up shots, which were taken at a wildlife hospital. Bald Eagles winter along the river where the water remains unfrozen, which is typically near locks and dams. I really enjoyed watching them fight over a fish. You can see the sequence of the battle near the beginning of this gallery. There are a few captive eagles, which are noted.

They hug the river before shooting straight up
After shooting straight up at least 150 feet the fish is dropped
One eagle realizes the fish is falling while the other two continue to battle
The two continue to battle while the third eagle starts downward
The fish is falling faster than the lower eagle can react
The fight starts to break up as the fish hit the water
