NEPAL: The Himalayan Kingdom

The purpose of this gallery is not only to express Nepal as a land, but to express life in Nepal and to develop relationships with the subjects: the people and culture of Nepal. All of the following photographs were taken by me during a student community service project in the Nuwakot district of western Nepal; through Global Routes (www.globalroutes.org) and Exotic Mountain Treks (www.triptonepal.com).

I think you are missing the point of this gallery. the places I lived in and visited were not feudal and oppressive, but more like simple and happy. You can blab all you want with your ridiculous Marxist ideology, but when it comes down to it, that simply isn't true and doesn't work.

The pictorials are really good but does it reflect the poverty and opression of the people - which can not miss the naked eye - so the camera lens. The prevalent feudalism added misery to the people - reflection through the lens was expected as like the magnificient Himalayas

As you all the nepalese know that nepal is a landlocked country, having a beautifull hills and mountains. We all know one more thing that the world highest mountain mt.everst is also belongs to us (all nepalese). thats why we need to raised our head. As from my heart i feel proud to be nepali. i love my country and all the people wheather they belong different caste and religious. One thing we should not forget that we all are nepali. at last best wise for upcomming future

Lovely photos Matt! I led the Global Routes Nepal project in 1996 to Manang, then led treks for a few years... I certainly miss the annual pilgrimage to the Himalaya, but now I'm both a father and a homeowner. What was your service project in 2003? Is GR continuing its trips, considering the ups and downs of the Maoist situation? Thanks for the quick little "trip" to Nepal!
