Honduras and Belize: Garifuna and Maya

I traveled around the Island of Roatán, Honduras in December of 2003. Roatán is located 40 miles off the Caribbean coast of Honduras and is part of the Honduran state of Las Islas de la Bahia (Bay Islands). Although Spanish is the official language of Honduras as a whole, English is widely spoken on Roatán. The ethnic population of the island is a mix of African Garifuna (native English-Creole speakers) and Maya Hondureños (native Spanish speakers, like on the mainland).

I traveled to Belize in December of 2003. I stuck mostly to the Belize City area and the Cayo District in the extreme west of the country (Belize City, Xunantunich, and San Ignacio).
