I'm ViJaY Kumar Shukla , presently working as a Mathematics teacher at AECS No.4 at Rawatbhata. I appreciate the efforts of Peter & Jackie for uploading these so old pictures and letting us see those old scenes. Since then, the time of 60-70's, Rawatbhata has been changed a lot, it is a full furnished town now. With good wishes for Peter & Jackie Majn.

I had lived at this place almost two decades back (I was born here).

But the memory still fresh. I dont know how I found this site, but thank god I did. Its amazing to see that texture of some places do not change. In spite of so long a time, I could identify each and every place. Thanks for putting this together! You made my day!

Thanks for the pictures. I was also in R.A.P.P. township from Sert. 1970 to Feb. 1973. Lots a good times had there as there was no t.v. See some old friends names on your site. Received some pictures of our old house in township from a woman I meet on a recent trip to Kaiga power plant (in India) with my husband. It was really great to see the house after all these years. I too lived in RAPP. We actually moved into the house after the Main's. I've been looking for a way to find some of the families that we have lost touch with.

I have tears of joy seeing these pics, of a place where I was brought up. I moved out of Rawatbhata in 1996 but the memories are still there in my mind,fresh and young. I am thankful to you guys for putting up these pics on the web. I miss the people and the place itself a lot. And am waiting for the time when I can revisit it again.

We moved to Rajasthan in the early days, when it was still being built. They used donkeys to carry the materials ... and they would hobble them at night so that they couldn;t get away. We used to have great fun as kids catching the donkeys ... we each had our own and would ride them when the workers were away.
Mrs Karger was the first teacher for the families ... followed by Mr Trantor and then Mr Main. I recall Mr Trantor had a motorcycle that he used to ride around.
Holi was always a great holiday ... everyone going crazy spraying each other with coloured waters. We used to have small spray bottles .... and then one year some of the engineers got pretty ambitious and loaded a 45 gallon drum onto the back of a jeep with a high powered pump on it, and went around spraying us all.
It was pretty rural back then ... during the time that we were there, three tigers were killed in the valley next to the community. We used to go bamboo hunting in the valley ... I guess it never occurred to us where there was one tiger there might be more. We didn;t really have a use for the bamboo, but used to delight in uprooting and bringing home the finest specimens.
Its sad to see the pool empty ... we used to have great fun there. It really was a community pool that everyone in the community enjoyed. I remember going to the pool for lunch, and our mom would meet us there with sandwiches.
Tons of fun when it got dirty and the frogs moved in, we had great fun catching the frogs and throwing them over the fence. There was a technique to it, cause they were pretty slippery ... you had to sneak up on them and grab them with both hands so they wouldn't get away.

Nice to see these images. I did my schooling in rawatbahata (1st to 12th, 1977-1993) and then moved to Karnataka and USA to pursue higher studies. I never returned to Rawatbhata after 1993. Rawatbhata has very hospitable people and glad to see images of place where I stayed after 11 years.

Simply Awesome !!. Many thanks for Rawatbhata pictures. I have seen the submersable bridge going in water when the dam gates open from the same view as in your picture, but never had any way to trap the moment. I am brought up in Rawatbhata and have stayed in township for many years. Its a great feeling to see how all those places looked in 69-70s, where we played. I still go to all those places. RAWATBHATA, such a nice place..i had spend 20 yrs of my life in rawatbhata only, now I am in delhi, but whenever I am getting time I do visit Rawatbhata to fress my self aswell as my soul.

I am living in Rawatbhata from last 16 years and resided in township for about 10 years... it was really good to see those snaps from the colony where I spended my childhood along with friends... as a child i always used to think "how would have been township (Town site)in 1968-1970 wheh the Canadians lived here" and finally I got almost all my curosities answered here on this site thanks for returning some of my wonderfull moments back to me... you guys are doing a great job ... all the very best...

P.S- We indians have to be paranoid about no pics of dams etc, we are surrounded by hostile countries u see.

I am fascinated and amused by these pictures. I was born (and raised) in the mid-70s in Rawatbhata. Never did I imagine that the small sleepy town I grew up in, would get coverage on the internet. Great pictures! Unlike the sundry sites on Rajasthan tourism, you seem to have truly captured the rural Rajasthan especially the people. I wonder if you have more pictures/experiences to share.
I am far away from Rawatbhata and I have almost no contacts there now. But I hope to visit next year and see if I can meet up with any old buddies.

My family also lived in the RAPP township in India. I'm so amazed to see pictures of
the community.
My teacher was Mr. Tranter. I believe we came to India following your family.

Rawatbhata is my birth place, associated with a lot of sweet memories and precious moments of my life. Although I am in singapore now, but visit rbt atleast twice a year.

Iam really surprized to see all the images, as I have lived in this town from the last 21 years, and pics of RAPP township were very close to my heart as I have been living in this colony from the last the 6-7 years now.

It was a delight to see all the Rawatbhata images, as its been a long time Iam not able to roam around this town, except the months I visit my parents as Iam based in New-delhi now.

i was born n brought up in rawatbhata even though i belong to the later generations.
i was actually trying to find some info about r/b when i stumbled on your site .the pictures are reall great,esp the one were ur working

its good to know how different people worked for the overall good of the community as a whole
