Scott: I'm still kicking around cancelling the order for the new 70-300 VR f/4.5-5.6 lens and saving up for the 70-200 VR f/2.8. Let's see, donate two pints of blood a week at $25 per pint ...... I should have the lens about the time I retire.

David: I think for about the same money as the 18-135mm kit lens, you can get the 18-70mm lens that was the kit for the D70s. This lens actually tested out pretty well. See the review of it here: http://www.slrgear.com/reviews/showproduct.php/product/131/cat/13

What a great illustration of vignetting. Thanks for that. I have read that the 18-55mm kit lens is a bit better than the 18-135. I use a D50 with a 50mm 1.8 fixed lens. No zoom but abolutely no distortion. I bet that Nikon replaces the D50 soon with a D60 or something like that. I may wait and see if I don't break down and just get a D80.

Photo Delles: I LOVE the D80 camera. I think the 18-135mm kit lens is only mediocre. There's noticible vignetting unless stopped down and definate softness in the corners. Were I to do it over again, I'd get the body only and spend the extra money on a better main lens. If you already have the D50 and you've got good glass I think they'll look great on the D80. Still waiting for my 70-300 VR zoom to arrive... ;-)

Thank for your test, i think d80 is a great camera, I have the D50 but i want to upgrade, is it a good idea to buy d80 ?, thanks.
