Quarry Blast

This is a series of pictures of a small quarry blast at the Colton Cement plant in Colton, CA. These are jpg files extracted from the NEF files and were simply cropped and then run through Paint Shop Pro 8's "One Step Photo Fix".

There were 105 charges rigged to go off with something like 20 milliseconds between charges. At 6 frames per second, we're looking at just over 2 seconds for these shots.

A really cool series.
Although I know that an explosion isn't instantaneous, it's still remarkable to see it build and grow in such a "stately" fashion. I suppose these 13 shots must represent about 1.5 - 2 seconds?
Anyway, great use of an oportunity, and thanks for sharing.
