A fellow and a gal got out of their pickup truck to capture an image using their cell phone camera right next to the utility pole the owl was perched on which happens quite often in this time and age in these circumstances. They didn't know any better as most of the general public doesn't as these actions can scare the birds from their perch as it did this one. It's best to stay in the vehicle using it as a blind and keeping a reasonable distance from the bird. This is why more advanced photographers spend great sums of money on large lenses to put distances between them and their subjects so as not to disturb the subject(s) and capture their images in a more natural state. Each subject has it's comfort zone and will let you know most likely if you enter it. The images you see in my galleries here are cropped quite a bit to give the appearance of being closer than what I was. This in addition to using my super telephoto lens. You can't have this quality of images without forgoing a large expense and having the right equipment while still keeping a safe and comfortable distance for your subject(s) which at times I have heard and seen can become subjective.
