As I drove my VW bus from Ely toward Austin on Highway 50 sometime in June of 1993, something caught my eye out the north window. I was curious enough to turn 'round, go back, park, and traipse out into the puckerbrush to find out what it was. I still don't know for sure, but believe it to be in the family Nyctaginaceae, genus Mirabilis.
