My third stop in Austin was on July 23, 2012. Thunderstorms had ripped the sky from considerably west of Truckee, CA,
the night before, but left me an opening during which to charge up the mountain again (it may now have a name, possibly
Bob Scott Peak). It had more road disturbance, more communication equipment, more "amenities" (including a pair of
incongruous concrete benches and a signboard with no sign). On the lower fringes, just above town, the wind
tousled showy, attractive clumps of bright, white matileja poppies enough to keep me from focusing properly
--or even to the extent that I usually am able to do.
