We leave the far-north and come upon Bear Island, a 69 square-mile rock
in the Barents Sea. Bear Island is the southernmost island of the Svalbard
archipelago and is located one-third the way between Spitsbergen and the
Norwegian mainland. The island is uninhabited except for several personnel
working at the island's meteorological station. A large number of birds
inhabit the island's rocky cliffs.
