This photo was made prior to the USS Hugh Purvis going into Bermuda for a week.

I bunked with the deck crew, down in the forward sleeping quarters. Great bunch of guys on this ship, from the officers down to the mess cooks. I wish I could see every one of them again. I was a guest passenger aboard the Purvis for six weeks in early 1962. I had no shipboard duties, but if we had picked up John Glenn I would have made photographs of him for NASA.
