Cades Cove is in Blount County Tennessee, and in the Smoky Mt Nat Park. Go to Townsend TN, and then follow the signs to Cades Cove. Townsend is app thirty six miles south of Knoxville, TN.

I have made over 100 trips to Cades Cove in my life time. My next door neighbor took me to Cades Cove on their family picnic when I was around twelve years old.

At that time the roads were gravel, and small creeks crossed the road every few hundred feet. Back then there were occupied houses in the cove, with some of them being large two story frame houses. The Shields house was on the left of the road, and another one was just past the Baptist Church, on the right.

Until the late seventies these were a lot of Apple trees in the cove. They were gone by 1980.
