The nation’s only tri-service joint base - Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, (Air Force, Army, Navy,) held its Power in the Pines Open House and Airshow at McGuire Air Force Base, New Jersey, on May 14-15, 2016. The show included the Breitling Jet team which is the largest professional civilian aerobatic jet team in Europe, the Geico Skytypers Performance- using six vintage WW II aircraft performing precision flight maneuvers, the US Navy F/A-18F Hornet Fighter Attack Aircraft in action, a B-2 Jet Aircraft Flyby, and the US Air Force Thunderbirds F-16 Fighting Falcons. There were also static displays from the Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard. Military families were invited to the rehearsal day on Friday and the weather did not cooperate with the aircraft flying rehearsals. The cloud ceiling in the early afternoon dropped down to below 1000 feet and those aircraft that were scheduled to practice in the afternoon were canceled. The photos taken on Friday were under not very favorable conditions. On Saturday, the first day of the Open House, it was also mostly cloudy with occasional patches of partial sunshine which again made conditions difficult for good aircraft photography. I attended the rehearsal on Friday May 13 and the first day of Open House on May 14. It was truly an amazing and exciting show.
