June 6th, 2009 was the 65th anniversary of the invasion of Normandy. Each year at this time, the Mid Atlantic Air Museum in Reading, PA, sponsors the World War II Weekend. You can view period vehicles, aircraft, and re-enactors. And, for the next few years at least, you can see some of the real heroes of World War II. Veterans from most of the services show up to tell their stories, sign books, etc. This year I concentrated on the people attending the event. (You can only take so many pictures of a tank.) It was a fun day and I think I got some great photos.
Every year at this time, I always think of what this generation did. Of how they put themselves "on the line" not with words or promises, but with their lives. Although it's sad and part of the pointlessness of war...they still did it. I've often thought what it would have been like in one of those landing craft, or yes even on the other side, seeing the sky dark with allied planes (and it was - my dad served in England in the Army Air Corp and told me of it) It's almost incomprehensible...the courage and determination this generation had and has. Very nice job on these. . Thanks.
nice collection. These do capture the flavor of the time as I perceive it. It is sad to note the passing of this generation. Few in my eyes gave as much as they in the pursuit of our dreams....
