At the Chandlery BW.jpg
This was taken in Mystic Seaport which is a recreation of the historic village of Mystic that made its living serving the shipping that plied the Atlantic waters. The port provided everything needed for the provisioning of the vessels that stopped there. The chandler supplied many necessary items.
I was working with one incandescent lamp and window and door light in this shot. The ISO was 800 and I got very good detail and no noise with the D700's full frame sensor. This shot exists in color as well.
At the Cooperage.jpg
Obviously the cooper provided barrels, buckets, and tubs of various sizes and shapes.
Natural, indirect lighting provided even coverage in the foreground and then the light gently falls off in the background allowing for necessary contrast.

Fishers Island Ferry BW.jpg
This is the Fishers Island Ferry Building in New London. It was fairly early morning and the sun was strong and shadows were the challenge photographically. I shot this, hand held, for HDR processing. With the right subject and a steady hand, this works well. The facade of the building facing the camera was in fairly deep shadow. So the HDR technique seemed appropriate.
My goal shooting HDR is to have the final result look natural - duplicating what we would perceive with our own eyes. I always take the HDR image into Photoshop for final processing.
The skies that I encountered in both New London and Mystic that day were spectacular - especially suited to B&W.
