Targoviste Medieval town
Targoviste was populated since Neolithic age (fact proofed by archeological discovers). Even during Roman Empire occupation the place develops and grows. For the first time the city Targoviste appears in documents in 1396. The small city become the palace for walachian leaders (named Domni) beginning with Mircea cel Batran (The Old Mircea) regency (1355-1418). Mircea cel Batran build the Royal Court. Mircea cel Batran`s aftermaths improved and add new constructions for Royal Court. One of this was Vlad Tepes (know in universal history as : Vlad The Devil or Dracula) who added the Chindia Tower, the symbol of Royal Court. During Constantin Brancoveanu regency (1688-1714), Targoviste become only a summer residency because Brancoveanu decide to moved the palace to Bucharest.
During century the town know an important social, politic and economic development.
For recent history Tragoviste means the place were dictatorial couple Ceausescu were execute, in December 1989.
