Wutaishan is a mountain west of Beijing that is famous as a Buddhist pilgrimage centre. It can be visited as a weekend trip from Beijing, but 3-4 days is better. This allows time for traffic delays caused by the notorious coal trucks on Shanxi roads. On this trip we spent 3 hours going 20 km in one long traffic jam.
