On August 14 2016 a M5.4 earthquake occurred in the Colca Canyon, with an epicentre between Yanque and Ichapampa. Sadly, the collapse of stone and mud houses led to 5 deaths and many injuries. I was travelling in Peru at this time and arrived in Yanque 3 days later while relief efforts were getting underway.
