Fort Washington is located south of Oxon Hill, MD along the Potomac River. Fort Washington was built to defend the Nation's Capital. It was the only defense of the Nation's Capital until the Civil Was. Later, Fort Washington protected Washington, DC from attack by seafaring vessels.
